Like many other children on the autism spectrum and with sensory processing disorders, my son has a difficult time with haircuts. He doesn’t like anybody messing with his head. As he grows older, he can be even more resistant.
Kudos to Tammy, a stylist at Snip-its hair salon, for her patience and creativity. On a busy Saturday morning at the salon, Tammy spent 45 minutes with him. She showed him repeatedly that the clippers would not hurt him. She actually let him cut his own hair. He ended up buzzing about a third of it himself, under her close supervision. It’s not easy to cut your own hair. He did a fantastic job. It was the best haircut he ever had.
I never thought I would say this, but I am looking forward to his next haircut with Tammy.
